DEL RIO, TX – The night air was thick with tension as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers conducted a routine inspection that led to a major drug bust at the Del Rio International Bridge on Wednesday. Under the dim lights of the border crossing, agents discovered a meticulously concealed stash of methamphetamine hidden within plant containers.
Massive Methamphetamine Seizure
During a secondary inspection of a 2014 Ford van equipped with a utility trailer, CBP Office of Field Operations officers utilized advanced non-intrusive inspection technology alongside trained canines.
Their thorough search unveiled eight packages containing a staggering 124.78 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. The drugs, ingeniously hidden among planters in the trailer, were valued at an estimated $1,115,472 on the street.
Ongoing Criminal Investigation
Following the seizure, all related items—the drugs, the driver, the vehicle, and the trailer—were handed over to the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office has since initiated a criminal investigation to address the illicit activity.
Liliana Flores, Port Director of the Del Rio Port of Entry, praised the operation’s success.
“This seizure reflects the commitment of our frontline officers to CBP’s border security mission and the effective utilization of inspection experience and technology,” Flores stated.
“These drugs will not be entering and causing further harm to our communities.”
A Note of Gratitude
The community extends its heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated CBP officers whose unwavering vigilance and professionalism play a crucial role in maintaining border security.
Their relentless efforts not only prevent dangerous substances from entering our neighborhoods but also ensure the safety and well-being of countless families across the region. We are grateful for their commitment to protecting our communities and upholding the law with such integrity and determination.
