PITTSBURGH, PA – A Pittsburgh man has been charged with multiple serious crimes, including the attempted murder of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent, following a violent incident on August 30, 2024. The 22-year-old, Drew Gordon, is now facing federal charges after allegedly firing 18 shots at the DEA agent while the officer was working an unrelated investigation.
The Shooting Incident
The events unfolded when a DEA agent was fired upon multiple times in Pittsburgh. According to authorities, Gordon allegedly aimed at the agent’s vehicle, striking it multiple times. Despite the barrage of bullets, the agent was unharmed, though the vehicle sustained damage.
Law enforcement sources confirm that a total of 18 rounds were fired in the attack, which occurred as the DEA agent was simply doing his job to keep the streets safe.
“This is a violent assault on a law enforcement officer, one that posed a direct threat to public safety,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan.
“Violent assaults on law enforcement, whether federal, state, or local, pose a major threat to the safety of our communities. We will pursue those who unleash gun violence into our communities — regardless of whether they target law enforcement officers or civilians — with the full weight of federal law.”
Investigating the Shooting
Following the shooting, federal, state, and local agencies launched an intensive investigation. Evidence collected from various sources, including cell phone location records, cell phone data, surveillance footage, and vehicle records, led authorities to identify Gordon as a suspect. These findings were crucial in linking him to the shooting incident.
Later that evening, law enforcement executed a federal search warrant at Gordon’s residence. The search resulted in the seizure of significant amounts of illegal drugs, including 100 bricks of fentanyl, around 85 grams of crack cocaine, and about four ounces of powder cocaine.
In addition, agents discovered approximately $10,000 in cash at the property. Along with the drugs, authorities found firearms, including a 9mm Glock pistol with a 50-round drum magazine, a .40 caliber Glock pistol with an extended magazine, and an empty 9mm magazine.
Legal Consequences and Penalties
The charges against Gordon are severe. In addition to attempted murder, he faces counts of assault on a federal officer, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, and possession of firearms in connection with drug trafficking. If convicted, Gordon faces a potential minimum sentence of 20 years in prison, with the possibility of life behind bars. He could also be subject to fines of up to $8 million.
“The attempted murder of a federal law enforcement officer, someone who dedicates their life to public safety, threatens our entire community,” said FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek.
“The FBI and our local, state, and federal partners stand side by side in holding violent offenders accountable.”
The investigation into Drew Gordon’s alleged actions is ongoing, as law enforcement remains committed to ensuring that such offenders are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
