Quirky, funny and downright bizarre, Jug Band Hokum: A Documentary Series follows the eccentric lives of jug band musicians competing to win a broken waffle iron in the 33rd Annual Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands. The web series features appearances by: Garrison Keillor, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Charlie Parr, Dom Flemons of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Baby Gramps and more. The series stars: Jillian Paige (Amnesia Starr), Joseph Lymous (Lil’ Majesty), Anne Baggenstoss and Brooklynd Turner. This is a 2021 web series remix of our 2015 award-winning film Jug Band Hokum, with bonus footage, alternate edits and much more not seen in the original film.

Episode 1 – “The Breakdown”
Summary: Amnesia Starr, the loud-mouthed leader of the band $how Me Your Jug$, is not happy with the results of the 33rd Annual Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands. Her boyfriend, manager and DJ – Lil’ Majesty – finds himself in a sticky situation.

Episode 2 – “The Yoga Jug Benders”
Summary: Quirky visual artist Brooklynd Turner and eccentric yoga teacher Anne Baggenstoss are introduced as co-leaders of competing band, the Yoga Jug Benders. One of them has a cardboard boyfriend and a room full of squids in jars, the other mediates daily while playing her musical spoons…sitting on top of a 7,000 pound spoon.

Episode 3 – “Rules and Experts”
Summary: Rap legends Bone Thugs-n-Harmony meet the skiffle band Bones Jugs-n-Harmony. Radio humorist Garrison Keillor, bluesman Charlie Parr and other roots music historians – including Dom Flemons of the Carolina Chocolate Drops – discuss jug band music. Additional guests include: Deep Fried Pickle Project, Baby Gramps, 3 Good Samaritans Jug Band and more.

Episode 4 – “Show Me Your Jugs”
Summary: Amnesia Starr and boyfriend Lil’ Majesty are introduced as competing band $how Me Your Jug$. Together with their friends Debbie Foxx and Baby Doll, the quartet prepares for the Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands by twerking, eating Flamin’ Hots and praying to Jesus.

Episode 5 – “Battle of the Jug Bands”
Summary: Every winter hundreds of bands from across America travel to the Twin Cities, to compete in the Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands. The grand prize is a broken waffle iron. This is the big day.

Episode 6 – “The Aftermath”
Summary: With the dust settled, members of the Yoga Jug Benders and $how Me Your Jug$ discuss the Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands, and how being in the competition has changed their lives…for better or worse.
