Did you know there are nine different types of turtles that live in Winona County? Snapping turtles are one of them, and they are usually 8 to 14 inches (20-36 cm) in length. Some snapping turtles can get pretty big…weighing up to 45 pounds (16 kg)!
Despite their size, snapping turtles are also very photogenic. This one loved modeling for us, striking poses and showing off its unique features and charms. He really is the cutest snapping turtle ever! We couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures and making a video to share with you! Hehe.

Snapping turtles spend most of their time near water, and they spend the cold Minnesota winters buried in mud and leaves. These creatures can live for about 30 years, and even longer in captivity.
