What Would a 4-Day School Week Mean for Minnesota Families?

Could Minnesota schools move to a 4-day week? Find out what this means for kids, families, and teachers! 😮 #Minnesota #Education #4DaySchoolWeek

Minneapolis, Minnesota – Schools across the Land of 10,000 Lakes could soon switch to a shorter week, with a new bill proposing a 4-day school schedule. This means kids might get a long weekend every week! But, not everyone is thrilled about this idea. The big question is, what happens on that extra day off?

The bill lets schools choose a 4-day week without needing a thumbs up from the Minnesota Department of Education. But, some folks at the Department are worried. They’re wondering how families will find childcare and what pressure this will put on communities.

Representative Patricia Mueller is optimistic, though. She believes communities can come up with solutions, like programs at the YMCA or other local resources.

Albert Lea‘s Superintendent Ron Wagner isn’t a fan of the idea. He thinks it needs strong community support to work. Otherwise, it could lead to fewer students enrolling.

However, some schools that have already made the switch are happy with the results. Superintendent Pat Walsh of Belgrade Brooten Elrosa Public Schools says over 95% of their community supports the change.

Another concern is how this will affect teachers. According to Rep. Mueller, teachers’ contracts won’t change. They’ll use the extra day for grading and professional development. But Superintendent Wagner is still worried about the impact on the school day and calendar.
