ST. PAUL, MN – The Evermore family isn’t done making history. After 7-year-old Sylvan Evermore stunned the climbing world by conquering Yosemite’s iconic Leaning Tower, they’re gearing up for another daring feat. With record-breaking climbs already in their blood, the young adventurers, led by their father Joe, are ready to tackle their next challenge. But this time, they’ll be taking on one of the world’s most dangerous peaks.
7-Year-Old Sylvan’s Record-Breaking Climb
In November 2024, Sylvan became the youngest person to summit Yosemite’s Leaning Tower, a 700-foot monolith that intimidates even seasoned climbers. The vertical rock face, which has lured adventurers for decades, proved no match for the young prodigy.
“I love being up there,” Sylvan said after his triumph. “It feels like I’m flying.”
This achievement follows in the footsteps of his older brother Sam, who previously set the record as the youngest to scale Yosemite’s famous El Capitan at just 10 years old.
A Dangerous Setback on the Matterhorn
Sam’s next target was even more ambitious—the notorious Matterhorn, towering on the border between Italy and Switzerland. But during his 2024 attempt, disaster struck. A dangerous rockfall forced him to retreat just shy of the summit. The Matterhorn’s unforgiving terrain has claimed the lives of many climbers over the years.
“Sometimes you have to know when to turn back,” Sam explained. “But I’ll be ready when it’s time to go again.”
Determined to make history, Sam is already training for another attempt, racing against time to beat the current age record.
A Father’s Role in Their Success
Joe Evermore, the family’s experienced climbing guide and mentor, plays a pivotal role in their success. With years of climbing experience, he has been instrumental in fostering his sons’ passion and equipping them with the skills needed for such high-risk expeditions. From planning routes to teaching survival techniques, Joe ensures they are ready for anything.
Safety is his top priority. Joe has instilled in his sons the importance of understanding weather patterns, assessing risks, and working as a team to adapt to changing conditions.
“It’s not just about the summit,” Joe said. “It’s about the journey, the teamwork, and the love for the mountains.”
What’s Next for the Evermore Family?
With Sam preparing for his next shot at the Matterhorn and Sylvan setting his sights on new challenges, the Evermore family’s journey is far from over.
Their passion, discipline, and resilience promise more record-breaking moments ahead as they continue to push boundaries and inspire climbers worldwide.
