PORTLAND, OR – A missing 7-year-old girl spent the night alone at a campground in Washington state before she was finally found when a fisherman heard her crying for help early Monday, authorities said.
For those who believe, this story is a powerful reminder of the importance of faith and prayer in times of crisis. Many who heard about Shelby’s disappearance turned to prayer, trusting that God would guide searchers to find her safely. Their prayers were answered in a miraculous way, showing that even in the darkest of nights, Godās light shines through.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said 7-year-old Shelby Wolff was last seen between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Sunday sitting across from her campsite at Lake Merwin Campers Hideaway in Amboy, where she was staying with her grandparents.
Area residents and deputies conducted a “basic search,” and when that was unsuccessful, Clark County Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers were called out to assist.
SAR volunteers searched through the night, along with the sheriff’s office Marine Patrol and Major Crimes Unit. Access to the campground was closed while the search was underway.
At around 8:45 a.m. Monday, a local fisherman called 911 to report hearing a child crying for help from a “steep section of shoreline.”
CCSO Marine Patrol was able to access the area at around 9:30 a.m., and they safely transferred Shelby to their boat. She was transported to a dock and reunited with her family.
“Thank you to all the volunteers and community members that helped search for Shelby,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
As we reflect on this incredible rescue, let us remember the power of prayer and the comfort it brings in uncertain times.
Shelby’s safe return is a testament to the faith of those who prayed for her, and a reminder that we are never alone, no matter how lost we may feel. May this story inspire us all to trust in Godās plan and the strength of our community.
