AKRON, OH – On a chilly January day in Summit County, Ohio, a U-Haul truck’s slight swerve off the lane line sparked an unexpected chain of events. Ohio State Highway Patrol footage, released on February 24, 2025, captured the moment troopers stopped the vehicle and unearthed a massive haul of illegal cargo. What began as a standard check for road safety quickly escalated into one of the state’s biggest drug busts this year.

Traffic Stop Turns Into Major Drug Seizure

The dashboard camera timestamp marks the stop at just before noon on January 24. In the video, a trooper approaches the U-Haul and explains the reason for pulling it over: the truck had drifted slightly out of its lane.

“I want to make sure you’re not texting and driving on your phone or anything,” the trooper tells the driver, a 33-year-old man whose identity remains undisclosed.

The driver claimed he was moving furniture, traveling from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania. Yet, when asked again, he switched his story, saying his destination was New York. Sensing inconsistency, the trooper requested permission to inspect the truck’s cargo area—an offer the driver accepted.

Massive Marijuana Haul Unearthed

The footage reveals the pivotal moment: the trooper lifts the lid of a large plastic bin in the U-Haul’s cargo hold, exposing what appears to be marijuana packed tightly inside.

A thorough search followed, and troopers extracted a staggering 700 pounds of cannabis from the vehicle. Authorities estimate the street value of the seizure at $3.5 million.

Arrest and Charges Filed

The driver’s journey came to an abrupt end as troopers placed him under arrest. He now faces felony drug charges tied to the enormous stash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol praised the routine stop’s outcome, noting the vigilance that led to removing such a significant amount of illegal drugs from circulation.
