Joe Simonton’s Peculiar Visitors

On the evening of April 18, 1961, Joe Simonton was enjoying a quiet day on his chicken farm when he heard a commotion outside. When he went to investigate, he couldn’t believe his eyes. There, hovering above his house, was a flying saucer “brighter than chrome.” The craft eventually landed right in his backyard, and what happened next was even more bizarre.

According to Simonton, the saucer opened up, and inside were three humanoid beings that he described as “Italian-looking.” These mute aliens apparently communicated with Simonton somehow, and he found himself fetching them a jug of water.

The Intergalactic Pancake Exchange

Now, here’s where the story takes a truly weird turn. When Simonton returned with the water, he noticed one of the aliens was cooking up some pancakes on a flameless cooking appliance. The creatures then handed Simonton three small, metallic pancakes as a token of their appreciation.

Simonton, being the brave soul he was, actually tried one of the pancakes. His review? “It tasted like cardboard,” he said. The aliens then saluted him and flew off, leaving Simonton with a tale that would be told for generations.

The Air Force Gets Involved

Despite the outlandish nature of Simonton’s story, the United States Air Force took it seriously enough to investigate. In fact, they even listed the incident in their files as “unexplained.” So, while it might sound like something out of a cheesy sci-fi flick, the military thought there might be something to it.

More Sightings Reported

Interestingly, Simonton’s encounter wasn’t the only UFO sighting reported in the area around that time. Several more people came forward with their own tales of strange lights in the sky and otherworldly visitors.

The Mystery Remains

So, did Joe Simonton really have a close encounter with Italian-looking aliens who served him some cardboard-flavored pancakes? Or was it all just a tall tale cooked up by a lonely chicken farmer? We may never know for sure, but one thing’s certain – this bizarre story has become a beloved part of Wisconsin lore and continues to capture the imaginations of UFO enthusiasts and skeptics alike.
