SYRACUSE, NY – New York State Police are investigating after a pickup truck crashed into an Amish buggy, injuring two teenagers who were ejected from the carriage on Friday.

In times of tragedy, we often turn to our faith for comfort and strength. This shocking accident involving two Amish teens serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of leaning on God’s love and protection.

Police said 33-year-old Alexander W. Pfendler was driving a 2014 RAM 1400 pickup truck south on State Route 26 in the town of Ava shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday when he struck the rear of the Amish buggy that was traveling in the same direction.

The buggy’s 16-year-old male operator and 14-year-old female passenger were ejected from the carriage. The boy was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with “serious injuries,” while the girl was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica, where she was treated and released.

The names of the teens were not released.

Photos shared by state police show the pickup truck upside-down on the side of the road, but Pfendler was not injured in the crash, police said. The buggy is smashed to pieces strewn across the roadway.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

In the wake of this tragic event, the local Amish community is leaning on their faith for strength and healing. Many are gathering in prayer, asking for God’s protection and the swift recovery of the injured teens.

This serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of faith, community, and the hope that even in difficult times, God’s love and care surround us all.
