NOGALES, AZ — A Border Patrol vehicle sustained damage during a tense encounter with a suspected human smuggling operation near Interstate-19 in Nogales, Arizona, on Tuesday night. The incident unfolded when Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested three Mexican nationals, including a 16-year-old driver, following a brief chase and collision.

Suspicious Vehicle Spotted Near Border

The event began around 7 p.m. when Nogales Station agents noticed a black Trailblazer near the border, raising suspicions of human smuggling.

Agents attempted to stop the vehicle for an immigration inspection, but the Trailblazer refused to pull over. Instead, it sped into the parking lot of a local restaurant.

Dramatic Collision Stops Rolling Threat

The situation escalated when the driver abandoned the moving vehicle and fled on foot, leaving it in drive with two passengers still inside. As the Trailblazer rolled forward, an agent quickly maneuvered his patrol vehicle in front of it, blocking its path.

The unmanned Trailblazer struck the agent’s passenger door before coming to a halt, preventing it from veering toward I-19 and into oncoming traffic.
