SYRACUSE, NY – The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible for a string of gun thefts in New York.

The ATF, in conjunction with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information in thefts from MD Arms, McLain’s Sporting Goods, Denver’s Firearms, and AJ Archery, all federal firearms licensees.

“In a country plagued with shootings, every stolen gun has the potential to create victims of violent gun crime,” ATF NY Acting Special Agent in Charge Tommy Kalogiros said in a statement.

“Federal firearms licensees are the first line of defense in stopping the flow of firearms into the hands of those who would use them to commit crimes and threaten the safety of our communities. ATF is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to apprehend the suspects responsible for these burglaries and to stop the cycle of violence.”

The spree of burglaries in the central New York region began last month, when Denver’s Firearms in Watertown was burglarized on July 27. The suspect or suspects forced entry and stole a total of 12 firearms.

On Aug. 7, suspects forced entry and stole six firearms from McLain’s Sporting Goods in Endicott. On Aug. 15, suspects forced entry and stole three firearms from MD Arms in Syracuse. On Aug. 16, suspects forced entry and stole 24 firearms from AJ Archery in Cazenovia.
