The violence erupted at Richards High School when, according to officials, a verbal altercation escalated into a physical attack. This attack was initiated by an outsider—someone who does not attend the school. As tensions flared, “several” cheerleaders were subjected to physical assault.

In response to the incident, Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 Superintendent Shahe Bagdasarian issued a note to families on Saturday to quell rumors circulating on social media. “During halftime, a verbal and physical altercation broke out, initiated by an individual who is not an OLCHS student,” Bagdasarian explained. “Several of our cheerleaders were unfortunately attacked.”

Oak Lawn Police quickly intervened, removing the individuals responsible for the altercation. “It is vital for all of us to remain vigilant and proactive in fostering a culture of respect and sportsmanship. As discussions about this incident arise, I encourage you to speak with your students about the importance of resolving conflicts constructively and understanding the impact of their actions on our community,” Bagdasarian said.
