BEAUMONT, TX – A Texas man is at the center of an investigation after he found a human skull in a wooded area and took it home as a souvenir. Authorities are working to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
The Discovery and Initial Investigation
The Beaumont Police Department was alerted on Friday evening by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office about a resident in possession of a human skull. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the man had found the skull on October 29 in the 6200 block of Helbig Road, located in Beaumont, Jefferson County.
The discovery was made by the man, who took the skull home, unaware of the serious implications. Upon receiving the tip, law enforcement authorities quickly responded. Beaumont police officers and Hardin County deputies searched the wooded area where the skull had been found, and they uncovered additional human remains.
Forensic Processing and Active Investigation
The Jefferson County Crime Lab responded early on Saturday morning to process the scene. Authorities then sent the remains to the Center for Human Identification at The University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth for further examination.
The Center is working to identify the remains and determine the cause of death. However, as of now, law enforcement has stated it is too early to tell whether the death was the result of foul play or natural causes.
Police are continuing to investigate the case, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are also urging anyone with information to come forward. They have provided the option for anonymous tips to be submitted in hopes of uncovering more details about the remains.
