SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – A parking disagreement took a tragic turn on Long Island, ending with the death of a young man and seven people now facing serious criminal charges. The Suffolk County Prosecutor’s Office has unveiled chilling details surrounding the violent encounter, revealing how a routine parking choice led to a senseless killing.

The Incident Begins with a Verbal Dispute

On the night of September 16, 2022, Linver Ortiz Ponce, 29, parked his red Chevrolet Camaro on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore, right outside the home of 22-year-old Kayla Alvarenga. Ortiz Ponce, a stranger to Alvarenga, became the target of her anger simply for parking outside her residence, investigators said.

A verbal dispute escalated quickly, and Alvarenga allegedly contacted 27-year-old Christopher Perdomo along with several teenagers. Prosecutors say Alvarenga directed them to come to her house and deal with Ortiz Ponce.

Attack Turns into Carjacking and Flight

Perdomo and three teenagersā€”aged 16, 16, and 17 at the timeā€”arrived in a stolen BMW, prosecutors said. They dragged Ortiz Ponce from his Camaro, assaulted him, and took off in both cars, leaving Ortiz Ponce behind.

Security footage later captured Ortiz Ponce running to a nearby gas station for safety, where he hid behind vehicles, seemingly hoping to avoid further conflict. But the night was far from over.

Abducted at Gunpoint and Taken to a Church Lot

When Alvarenga learned Ortiz Ponce had escaped, she allegedly contacted the attackers again, now joined by two more teens, aged 16 and 17. Together, they began searching the area for the victim.

In a coordinated effort, the group located Ortiz Ponce at a Shell gas station along the same street. Surveillance footage shows him being forced into the stolen BMW at gunpoint. The suspects drove to a church parking lot, believing there would be no cameras on site.

However, church security footage later documented the entire brutal assault. Prosecutors allege that all seven defendants took part in beating Ortiz Ponce. According to the prosecutorā€™s office, Alvarenga ordered Perdomo to shoot Ortiz Ponce as he tried to crawl away. Perdomo then allegedly fired multiple shots, killing him.

Law Enforcement Tracks Down Suspects

The case took law enforcement across state lines. Perdomo had relocated to Georgia in May 2024, where he was later arrested. The teenage suspects were apprehended in different areas across New York and other states.

Perdomo was arraigned on October 16 and now faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery, and weapons possession. Alvarengaā€™s arraignment is set for October 30, with charges expected to include murder.

Prosecutors Condemn the Brutality of the Crime

District Attorney Tierney spoke about the senseless nature of Ortiz Ponceā€™s killing. ā€œThe alleged murder in this case occurred with no provocation and for no good reason. No one deserves to suffer a violent death for simply parking a car. The alleged brutality showed here is unconscionable,ā€ Tierney said.

The case stands as a grim reminder of how quickly violence can escalate, leaving Ortiz Ponceā€™s family grieving and seven people now facing the full weight of the law.
