The other day I was visiting our friend Shannon at Paperbacks and Pieces here in our hometown of Winona, Minnesota. I noticed that she has our Midwest travel guidebooks alongside Britney Spears new best-selling memoir, The Woman In Me.
Well, this got me to reminiscing…
Recording with Britney Spears
This story is usually one I save for April 1 (for hopefully obvious reasons), but I figured it’s been awhile since we’ve shared the story and being Britney’s memoir is such a hit (and I wouldn’t mind riding on her coattails for some web traffic), I thought I’d tell you about the time Kitty and I recorded with the princess of pop herself: Britney Spears.
Of course, whether you choose to believe this or not, is totally up to you. But allow me to set the stage…
It’s Nashville, Tennessee. About a decade ago. Kitty has used her background in Early Childhood Education to launch a television show for preschoolers. Like most of my life, I’m just along for the ride and doing what I’m told. In this case, it’s head to the studio to record one of our most popular live songs, “Tooty Ta”.
If you’re a preschool teacher, you probably know this tune. Of course, what Kitty didn’t tell me is that today we’d be joined by none other than “Britney Spears”. Who, was a big fan of our television show that we filmed for PBS Kids in Nashville. Just Shut Up and Gimmie Something for Free!
Well, I suppose by now, you’re probably thinking, “gosh I wish Jack would shut up and just gimmie something for free.” Well, I guess now you know how Kitty feels. Hehe.
So, to make a long story short, we recorded a little piece of preschool pop magic with Britney Spears. And now, we’re giving the song to you for free.

* No, we did not record with the real Britney Spears. Although, we’re certainly down to jam out with her if she wants to give us a shout. Heck, I’ll even make her some tater tot hotdish.
