SUMTER COUNTY, SC – A Burger King parking lot in Sumter, South Carolina, became the site of a violent confrontation early Friday morning. What started as a drug deal quickly escalated into gunfire, ending with one man injured and the police recovering over $50,000 in drugs and cash.
Gunfire Erupts During a Drug Transaction Gone Wrong
Officers from the Sumter Police Department responded to reports of shots fired around 9:45 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Burger King on Calhoun Street, about 45 miles from Columbia. Authorities believe the violence broke out when one suspect attempted to rob the other during a drug exchange.
Arthur Jamaal Reimbeau, 24, from Spartanburg, was injured in the shooting and fled the scene. Police found him a short distance away, wounded but alive. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and arrested upon his release on Tuesday.
Police Track Second Suspect and Discover Major Drug Cache
The second suspect, 23-year-old Eyan Ernest Nathaniel, reportedly fled in a vehicle but was apprehended shortly afterward. Following Nathanielās arrest, officers conducted a search of a residence linked to him. Inside, police uncovered 18 pounds of marijuana with a street value of approximately $36,000, along with nearly $17,000 in cash.
Multiple Charges Filed Against Both Suspects
Reimbeau faces a range of serious charges, including:
- Discharging a firearm into a vehicle
- Attempted murder
- Illegal possession of marijuana (second offense)
- Possession of a stolen firearm
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
- Armed robbery
Nathanielās charges include:
- Attempted murder
- Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
- Trafficking marijuana
- Felon in possession of a firearm
No Bond Granted for Either Suspect
Both Reimbeau and Nathaniel were denied bond and remain in police custody as investigations continue.
