PHOENIX, AZ – An Arizona man who made chilling threats against FBI agents and other public officials has been sentenced to over a year in federal prison. Michael Lee Tomasi, 38, dared law enforcement to visit his home, openly stating his intention to shoot them on sight. This disturbing behavior has landed him 15 months behind bars, and he has also been ordered to surrender a large collection of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The Threats That Led to Prison Time

Tomasi’s threats stretched from May 2021 to November 2023, using social media to target multiple public figures. These included local law enforcement, a city district attorney, a state court judge, a member of Congress, and FBI agents. His posts were filled with violent language, and he openly incited others to engage in violent acts against public servants.

One of the most notorious posts came on August 26, 2023, where Tomasi explicitly called for the murder of FBI agents. He wrote: “Shoot the FBI first and ask questions later. . . . Any FBI [] have a problem with that[,] come to my house and see what happens. Shoot before they even pull their guns out of their trunk and you shoot to kill.” His violent rhetoric culminated in a direct challenge to the FBI, showcasing his willingness to act on his threats.

Law Enforcement’s Response

FBI Director Christopher Wray also addressed the severity of the case: “Threatening law enforcement officers and other public officials will not be tolerated, whether it involves our own FBI personnel, police officers patrolling their communities, or government officials carrying out their work. I take it very personally that anyone would threaten FBI personnel who work tirelessly to protect the American people from a variety of threats and often put themselves in harm’s way while carrying out their duties.”

Authorities are sending a strong message with this case, making it clear that threats against law enforcement and public officials will not be tolerated. Tomasi’s actions were met with swift and decisive legal consequences, reinforcing the importance of holding individuals accountable for endangering those who serve the public.
