NASHVILLE, TN – On Sunday afternoon, three men were arrested after allegedly scaling the tallest skyscraper in Tennessee, the AT&T Building in Nashville. Their climb, which drew attention from a concerned citizen, led to a dramatic search that ended with the suspects hiding in a bathroom stall on the 24th floor.

The Suspicious Climb

At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, an alert citizen called 911, reporting three men acting suspiciously at the top of the AT&T Building. Responding officers quickly used binoculars to observe the men, spotting one near the building’s spire and another lying on the AT&T logo. Despite their efforts, officers initially found no sign of the suspects on the rooftop or exterior of the building.

With the men nowhere to be seen, the police initiated a floor-by-floor search of the building. Shortly before 6:30 p.m., the suspects were located inside a men’s bathroom on the 24th floor.

The Search and Arrest

When officers arrived at the bathroom, they found the suspects hiding in a stall. One officer, with weapon drawn, ordered them to show their hands under the stall door. The photos released by police show the men complying, their hands visible beneath the door as they sat together inside the cramped stall.

Police seized several cameras from the suspects, including a GoPro, which they believed were used to document the climb. Authorities also discovered tools that were reportedly used in the ascent, including a crowbar and screwdriver found in the backpack of one suspect.

The Suspects and Charges

The men were identified as Jacob Thomas Cieszynski, 26, from Chicago, Illinois; Chase Cooper Lester, 26, from Culloden, Georgia; and Ryan James McGarrity, 20, from Laguna Woods, California. They were charged with aggravated trespassing and disorderly conduct. Lester faces an additional charge of possessing burglary tools after the crowbar and screwdriver were found in his possession.

According to police, one of the suspects explained they had heard that the AT&T Building offered the best views of Nashville. With this information, the group decided to climb the stairs to the building’s roof to take in the city from above.

AT&T building is not Tennesee’s tallest, Paramount Tower is.

  2. Thanks for reading and the comment, David! Paramount is the tallest building by number of floors, but at 522 feet its not as tall as AT&T which is 617 feet. Hehe, thanks, Wikipedia! 😉 Hope y’all have a GREAT Thanksgiving! – Jack and Kitty
