SAN DIEGO, CA — In a dramatic 24-hour span, Border Patrol agents in Southern California delivered a crushing blow to drug traffickers, seizing over 139 pounds of narcotics in two separate vehicle stops.
Major Busts Rock San Clemente Station
The first takedown came during a routine afternoon patrol on March 17, when agents spotted suspicious activity near the San Clemente checkpoint.
After getting consent to search the vehicle, agents uncovered a duffel bag stuffed with narcotics. The stash included nearly 35 pounds of heroin, 16 pounds of fentanyl, and 5 pounds of cocaine — together worth more than $314,000 on the street.
The driver was arrested and handed over to DEA officials. They now face serious federal charges for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
Second Strike Yields Massive Cocaine Haul
Just hours later, at dawn on March 18, agents struck again.
This time, a K-9 unit sniffed out two duffel bags during another vehicle stop. Inside, agents found an eye-popping 83 pounds of cocaine, valued at $470,000.
The driver was taken into custody by the DEA and will face federal prosecution.
Rising Numbers Show Ongoing Battle
Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey D. Stalnaker of the San Diego Sector praised these operations as proof of the exceptional abilities and dedication of the border patrol teams. Their commitment to protecting American lives by disrupting narcotics trafficking remains unwavering.
The busts add to an already substantial tally for the San Diego Sector in fiscal year 2025:
- 906 pounds of cocaine seized
- 157 pounds of fentanyl intercepted
- 19 pounds of heroin confiscated
Both vehicles from the operations were seized by Border Patrol as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking operations along the California border.
