Active Warrant for Driver’s Arrest

Upon confirming the identities of those in the vehicle, agents learned that there was an active warrant out for the driver’s arrest.

The warrant had been issued by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in Texas for interference with child custody involving the 6-year-old child in the car. The warrant stemmed from the child’s alleged abduction during a custody dispute in Texas.

The agents detained both the driver and the child, transporting them to a local Border Patrol station for further processing.

Collaboration with U.S. Marshals and Reunification with Family

After confirming the circumstances surrounding the warrant, Border Patrol agents reached out to the U.S. Marshals Service for further assistance. The Marshals took custody of the driver, who now faces charges related to the alleged abduction.

Meanwhile, the child was placed in protective custody and arrangements were made for her to be reunited with her family.

San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel praised the agents for their swift and effective actions in bringing the child to safety.

“This is yet another example of how agents’ vigilance serves our communities and nation,” McGurk-Daniel said in a statement.

“In this case, as they often do, agents went beyond their traditional border security duties to reunite a missing child with their family.”
