DEL RIO, TX – Three individuals were nabbed by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas after trying a clever trick—attaching carpet to their shoes to hide their footprints while crossing the border illegally near Del Rio.
Unusual Tactic Foiled by Agents
The bust went down on February 27 when Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents got a tip from CBP Air and Marine Operations about three people trekking across a local ranch.
Agents rushed to the scene, tracked their “foot sign,” and quickly rounded up the trio.
A striking photo from U.S. Customs and Border Protection revealed their secret: scraps of carpet strapped to their footwear, meant to mask their trail in the dirt.
Official Response Highlights Agent Skill
“Illegal aliens will go to great lengths to try to conceal their entry into the country,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Milton Moreno in a statement.
“Our agents are trained in sign cutting methods that regularly foil these attempts.”
The group’s creative effort didn’t stand a chance against the agents’ expertise in tracking.
One Suspect Faces Serious Charge
After their arrest, the three were taken to the Carrizo Springs Border Patrol Station for processing.
A deeper check revealed that one of them, 30-year-old Refugio Juarez-Argote from Mexico, wasn’t new to this game—he’d been deported back in 2013.
Now, he’s staring down a federal charge of reentry after deportation, adding a legal twist to this border-crossing tale.
