Des Moines, Iowa – From humble beginnings in rural Iowa to a beloved Midwest staple, Casey’s General Store has won the hearts of many. Be honest, you love that pizza, don’t you?
It all started in 1935 with Domenic Lamberti’s coal and ice shop. His son Donald, learning the ropes from a young age, opened the first Casey’s in Boone, Iowa, in 1968. Donald knew the recipe for success: cater to small towns and maintain a clean, family-friendly atmosphere.
The name “Casey’s” itself has an interesting backstory. To avoid discrimination on account of his Italian heritage, Donald Lamberti chose “Casey’s” after the initials of Kurvin C. Fish, the man he hired to run the stores.
Casey’s became a one-stop shop for groceries, household essentials, and, later on, mouth-watering fast food. Their pizza, especially the breakfast variety, has become legendary. And let’s not forget the fresh donuts, soft-serve ice cream, and giant cups of soda!
Today, Casey’s is more than just a gas station; it’s a place where memories are made, whether it’s grabbing a slice of pizza, picking out a movie rental, or simply enjoying a clean bathroom on a long road trip.
Pro-Tip: When traveling the Midwest by car, my hubby Jack and I love stopping at Casey’s because they really do have the cleanest restrooms of any gas station chain in the area. They are usually way cleaner than KwikTrip.
