PRESIDIO, TX – In a significant drug bust at the Presidio Port of Entry in Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered 68 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a vehicle entering from Mexico. The seizure, announced on Tuesday, took place during a routine inspection over the weekend.

Discovery During Secondary Inspection

On Saturday at around 11 a.m., CBP officers stopped a 2010 Honda Pilot at the Presidio Port of Entry.

The vehicle was driven by a female citizen of Mexico, who was referred for a secondary inspection after officers noted unusual signs in the appearance of the SUV. Upon further examination, the officers used a fiber optic scope to inspect the fuel tank, where they identified bundles inside the compartment.

Arrest and Federal Prosecution

The driver, a Mexican citizen, was arrested on the spot. Following the arrest, she was handed over to special agents from Homeland Security Investigations for further processing and to face federal charges related to the drug trafficking attempt.

“CBP officers will employ a variety of tools and techniques to identify and stop drug smugglers,” said Benito Reyes Jr., CBP Presidio Port Director. “This layered enforcement approach allows CBP to quickly separate legitimate trade and travel from those who attempt to violate the laws of our nation.”
