Opinion: Celebrating Pride Month As A Christian?! What Does The Bible Say About Pride?
π What does the Bible say about Pride month? Should Christians celebrate with the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month? π #PrideMonth #MinnesotaNews #FaithAndReligion
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – As Christians, Pride Month provides us an opportunity to reflect on how we can best support and affirm our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters. While some may see a conflict between Christianity and the LGBTQ+ community, as followers of Christ, we are called to love our neighbors unconditionally. The Bible states, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)
β€οΈ Following Jesus’s Example of Radical Love
Jesus exemplified radical love and acceptance for society’s outcasts and marginalized. He welcomed everyone to his table, regardless of their social status or perceived “sins”. In that spirit, Christians should embrace the LGBTQ+ community with open arms.
We may not always understand each other’s experiences or agree on theology or doctrine, but we can still treat one another with dignity, respect and compassion.

π Educating Ourselves and Creating Inclusive Spaces
During Pride Month, Christians can celebrate by educating ourselves about the challenges and discrimination the LGBTQ+ community faces. We can speak out against homophobia and transphobia.
We can make our churches welcoming and inclusive spaces. And we can remember that we are all imperfect humans, equally in need of God’s grace.
π Treating Others as We Want to Be Treated
The Bible also instructs us to “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31) How would we want to be treated if we found ourselves in a hated minority group? With empathy, kindness and an effort to understand our perspective.
Even if you personally believe homosexuality is a sin, the Bible tells us to “hate the sin but love the sinner.” Christians are not called to judge, but to love. Period.

β Standing Up for Equality and Human Rights
Perhaps most importantly, as Christians we should take Pride Month as a reminder of Jesus’s message to care for the vulnerable and persecuted. The LGBTQ+ community has endured a long history of marginalization and oppression.
We should stand with them in their fight for equality, justice and human rights. “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” (Proverbs 31:8)
π³οΈβπ Celebrating Love and Living Out God’s Message
Pride Month is ultimately about love – love for our LGBTQ+ neighbors, family and friends. As Christians, we are called to be bearers of God’s love in this world. Let us celebrate Pride Month by living out that love loudly and unapologetically.
