WASHINGTON, D.C. – A chaotic scene unfolded at a Chipotle in Brentwood, Washington, DC, when a customer, upset over a wrong order, violently attacked an employee behind the counter. The incident quickly spiraled out of control, with the woman allegedly threatening to return and harm the workers in a chilling online post. The unsettling video of the attack has since been viewed millions of times, sparking widespread outrage.

The Incident Unfolds Behind the Counter

On Saturday, tensions escalated when the woman, carrying an empty bowl, pushed past employees behind the counter at the fast-casual restaurant. She began filling the bowl with food, ignoring the workers trying to intervene.

Employee Roberto Hernandez attempted to stop her by reaching for the bowl, but the woman pulled it away before slapping him in the face. The slap caused food to scatter across the counter, intensifying the confrontation.

Employee Details the Dispute Over the Order

According to Hernandez, the altercation began over a dispute about her Uber Eats order. The customer was upset because her burrito bowl did not contain the double meat she claimed to have ordered.

Despite Hernandez and his manager trying to explain that they couldn’t offer a refund and advised her to contact Uber for assistance, the customer became increasingly hostile. Hernandez also checked the receipt, confirming that the order did not include double meat as she had alleged.

When the customer’s frustration continued, she took matters into her own hands, stepping behind the counter to prepare her own order. Hernandez attempted to stop her, but the situation quickly turned physical. Hernandez, though visibly shaken, opted not to retaliate physically, explaining that he couldn’t strike a woman.

Threats Made After the Attack

After the physical altercation, the customer allegedly went online and posted threats to return to the restaurant, vowing to harm the staff. Hernandez described feeling fearful for his own safety as well as for his coworkers, who were also scared by the threats. The customer’s actions continued to escalate when she expressed her intention to sue Chipotle over the incident, while the company has filed a police report in response.

This latest incident is part of a troubling trend of aggressive behavior toward employees at Chipotle. In recent months, other workers at Chipotle locations have been attacked, including one in North Carolina where two customers beat a worker after being told they would be charged extra for chicken.

Chipotle continues to deal with the fallout from this violent incident, with both legal and safety concerns now at the forefront.
