PUEBLO, CO — In a twisted turn that rocked this steel city, a Colorado private security guard’s peculiar behavior led to the gruesome finding of a woman’s mutilated body in Fountain Creek.

BLOODY DISCOVERY AT THE CAR WASH

Solomon Martinez, 27, now stands convicted of first-degree murder after a jury rejected his claim that his victim took her own life.

The former Sangre De Cristo Arts Center guard was found guilty on March 13, 2025, for the January 2024 slaying of 47-year-old Renee Portillos.

CAUGHT RED HANDED—LITERALLY!

Police officers overheard Martinez muttering something that would make their skin crawl: “I had a hand in my jacket for two days.”

Their subsequent search revealed he wasn’t speaking metaphorically – they found a human hand, sealed in plastic, tucked inside his coat pocket.

FAILED COVER-UP ATTEMPTS

Martinez’s unraveling began at a local car wash, where his roommate spotted him covered in blood around 5 a.m. on January 9.

In what prosecutors later pointed to as consciousness of guilt, Martinez offered to forgive his roommate’s $1,000 debt in exchange for help digging a suspiciously deep hole and lending some tools.

The roommate, who later told reporters he was “beyond terrified,” declined the macabre proposal and contacted authorities through a friend.

FATAL ENCOUNTER

According to court documents, Martinez claimed he picked up Portillos for an intimate encounter on January 8. He told investigators that after a dispute over payment, he simply dropped her off.

However, DNA evidence, phone records, and the autopsy report painted a far more sinister picture.

THE VERDICT

After reviewing the evidence, including footage of the victim’s decapitated body shown by a witness, the jury found Martinez guilty on all counts: first-degree murder after deliberation, tampering with a dead body, and abuse of a corpse.

Martinez, who was caught with visible cuts on his hands during questioning, now awaits sentencing for his horrific crimes.
