KANSAS CITY, MO – A young journalist’s trip from Kansas City, Missouri to cover the Super Bowl took a grim turn in a New Orleans, Louisiana hotel room. Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old Telemundo sports reporter, was found lifeless just days before the big game. Authorities have dropped a bombshell toxicology report—confirmed the presence of Xanax in his system, sparking questions about his final moments.

Mysterious Encounter Caught on Camera

Manzano’s last known movements unfolded on hotel security footage. The video shows him trailing behind a woman later identified as Danette Colbert, dubbed the “Bourbon Street Hustler.”

Carrying a plastic shopping bag, he followed her into a room—the same place where his body would soon be discovered.

Police found Colbert with Manzano’s cellphone and credit card at her residence, raising suspicions about her role in his death.

Toxicology Results Raise Eyebrows

A preliminary toxicology report released on Tuesday revealed Alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax, in Manzano’s system at the time of death.

Kenner, Louisiana, police detective Jeffrey Fitzmorris shared findings in a Jefferson Parish courtroom, noting that the reporter had no prescription for the drug.

Authorities also uncovered the same substance at Colbert’s home, though how it entered Manzano’s body remains unclear.

Suspect’s Troubled Past Emerges

Danette Colbert, 48, was arrested the day after Manzano’s death. Kenner police revealed she has a history of targeting men, drugging them, and taking their belongings.

Following her arrest, evidence showed she used Manzano’s credit card at multiple New Orleans stores in the days after he died. Charged with robbery in this case, Colbert faces serious scrutiny.

Back in 2021, a man named David Butler, 52, claimed Colbert and another woman approached him for drinks in the French Quarter. After finishing his cocktail, he felt dazed and was led into a black Suburban—his last memory of that night. He believes he was drugged and robbed.

Nevada court records from 2022 also tie Colbert to charges of grand larceny and drugging others to commit crimes, though those cases fell apart when victims declined to testify.

Legal Consequences and a Judge’s Ruling

Last October, Colbert was convicted in New Orleans of computer fraud, theft, and illegal money transfers. Judge Nandi Campbell opted for probation and restitution over jail time, setting her on a five-year probation period. Despite this leniency, her attorney argued at a recent bond hearing that her past shouldn’t influence the current case. The judge disagreed, denying bond and labeling her a societal threat.

The investigation into Manzano’s death continues as police piece together the events that led to this tragic end for a reporter on the cusp of covering one of sports’ biggest stages.
