The Crazy Man – Short Story In English With Moral

Once, in a bustling city park, under the dappled shade of ancient oak trees, sat a couple on a weathered wooden bench. The man, with a twinkle in his eye, took a bite of his sandwich, his face lighting up with delight.

“Look at this lettuce, so green and crunchy!” he exclaimed, his voice tinged with wonder. “And the bread, it’s just so soft and delicious. This mayonnaise, it just melts in my mouth!”

The woman beside him, her hand gently clasped in his, smiled tenderly, her eyes reflecting his joy. “I’m glad you like your sandwich,” she replied, her voice soft with deep affection.

“And the grass, have you ever seen it so green?” he continued, his gaze sweeping across the park. “Look at those clouds racing in the sky! Do you smell that? It smells like roses!” Passersby couldn’t help but overhear, their expressions a mix of confusion and annoyance. “Is he alright?” they whispered, casting judgmental glances.

Suddenly, the man’s attention shifted to the ground, his eyes sparkling with fascination. “Look at that! So many ants can fit in that tiny little ant hill!” he exclaimed with childlike wonder. The man’s voice was loud and his appreciation exaggerated, making his behavior seem odd to those around him.

Nearby, two passersby exchanged knowing glances, one rolling their eyes in clear annoyance at what they perceived as the man’s nonsensical ramblings.

One stranger, a middle-aged man sitting nearby, couldn’t hold back. Approaching the bench, he addressed the woman with a tone of concern. “Ma’am, I think you should take him to see a doctor,” he suggested, eyeing the man with pity and skepticism.

The woman turned, her face serene yet proud. “I just did. He’s in perfect health,” she replied softly. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she continued, “He’s a soldier, my husband. He was a prisoner of war for seven years. I thought I’d lost him forever. Today, he came back to me.”

The stranger’s face softened, his eyes widening in realization. He nodded slowly, a respectful acknowledgment, before walking away, his own perspective shifting.

The couple’s conversation resumed, more intimate now. The man’s voice was a gentle murmur, filled with emotion. “Every color seems brighter, every sound is a melody. I never realized how much beauty I missed in the ordinary.”

The woman squeezed his hand, whispering, “You’re seeing the world as if for the first time again. It’s like we get to rediscover it together.”

As they spoke, a young girl, no more than eight, approached them shyly, holding a small bouquet of wildflowers. “For you,” she said, handing the flowers to the man with a smile. “You made me notice how pretty these flowers are. I picked them for you.”

The man accepted them with a grateful smile, his eyes meeting his wife’s. At that moment, it was as if the world paused, recognizing the profound bond of love and understanding between them.

The couple sat on the bench for several more hours watching the sunset, their hearts full. The man squeezed his wife’s hand and whispered, “It’s the little things, isn’t it? The world is full of wonders if only we choose to see them.”

In that park, under the watchful eyes of ancient oaks, the man and woman found joy in the simplest pleasures, their hearts bursting with appreciation. Life had given them a gift, showing them the power of love to renew and heal. And life – with its mysterious twists and turns – had shown them the greatest lesson of all: If you look at the world with fresh eyes, you may discover beauty in the most unexpected places.
