Rescue leaves hearts pounding and jaws dropping!
CALISTOGA, CA – A lost hiker was rescued Monday night from atop a rocky ridge in a state park in Napa County, authorities said.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew in the search and rescue of a lost hiker in the area of Table Rock, a rugged volcanic plateau offering panoramic views of Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, home to Mount Saint Helena.
A video shared by CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations shows a medic assisting the hiker to the helicopter, which was hovering above ground because “landing was not possible” on the rocky terrain.
According to CHP, the hiker “stated he simply got turned around,” and had no injuries or complaints.
He was flown to the valley floor and transferred to a sheriff’s deputy, who gave him a ride back to his vehicle.
The helicopter then returned to Table Rock, where the medic had been left behind while the hiker was transported.
As the helicopter achieved a low, stable hover once again, the medic climbed aboard, and the helicopter returned to base.
