Get Ready to Spring Forward: Daylight Saving Time 2024 is Around the Corner
Don’t forget to set your clocks forward on March 10th as we welcome longer days with daylight saving time 2024! #SpringForward #DaylightSavingTime
Winona, Minnesota – It’s that time of year again! In less than a month, we’ll be setting our clocks forward for daylight saving time. On March 10th, at 2:00 AM, we’ll lose an hour of sleep as we “spring forward” into longer days. This change will last until November 3rd, when we’ll set our clocks back to standard time.
Daylight saving time has been a part of our lives for over 50 years, but not everyone is a fan of the twice-a-year time change. There have been efforts to keep daylight saving time all year round, but so far, no law has been passed to make this happen. The Sunshine Protection Act is one such attempt, but it hasn’t been successful yet.

Even though we’ve been doing this for decades, changing the clocks can still be a hassle. While our phones and computers update automatically, we still have to manually adjust some clocks around the house.
The idea of daylight saving time goes way back to World War I, when it was used to save energy. In the US, it became official with the Standard Time Act in 1918. Over the years, there have been some changes, like in 2005 when the period of daylight saving time was extended.
Interestingly, not all states follow daylight saving time. Arizona and Hawaii stick to standard time all year round.
In the past, the US has tried having daylight saving time throughout the year, like during World War II and in 1974. But studies have shown that the impact on energy consumption, traffic, and crime is minimal.
So, as we prepare to adjust our clocks, let’s embrace the extra daylight and enjoy the longer days ahead!
