FRANKFORD, DE – A quiet Delaware community was shaken this week after a school bus aide was charged with felony child abuse. The aide, an 80-year-old woman, allegedly shoved and struck a 4-year-old student on a bus bound for the Indian River School District’s Early Learning Center.
Police Investigation Unveils Disturbing Allegations
According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred on September 16, but it wasn’t until a week later, on September 23, that the Indian River School District alerted authorities. Investigators quickly stepped in to uncover the disturbing details.
School Bus Incident: What Happened on September 16
The investigation revealed that on the morning of September 16, the child boarded a bus contracted by the school district. That’s when the aide, identified as Priscilla Schoolfield, allegedly forced the child to the back of the bus and then “forcefully shoved” them into a seat. The accusations don’t stop there—police say Schoolfield also struck the child during the same incident.
On Tuesday, October 3, Schoolfield was arrested and charged with third-degree child abuse, a serious felony offense. After being arraigned, she was released on her own recognizance, meaning she won’t have to post bail while the case moves forward.
Arrest and Charges: What’s Next for the Accused?
As the legal process continues, concerned parents and community members are left questioning the safety of their children on school buses. For now, authorities will carry on with their investigation, and the public waits for justice to be served.
Our hearts go out to the young victim and their family during this difficult time. No child should ever endure such harm, especially in what should be a safe environment like a school bus. We hope they find the support and healing they need as the investigation continues.
