MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Passengers were shocked Tuesday morning when a plane operated by Endeavor Air, headquartered in Minneapolis, collided with a Delta jet at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The crash, which occurred during taxiing, left the Delta aircraft with severe wing damage and tore the tail off the smaller Endeavor plane, creating chaos on the tarmac.
Passengers and onlookers described a jarring screech of metal as the planes collided, followed by a loud thud that echoed across the tarmac. Shattered debris from the torn tail and wing scattered across the ground, and a stunned silence fell over the area, broken only by the hum of emergency vehicles rushing to the scene.
Delta Air Lines Flight 295, set to depart for Tokyo, was taxiing when its wingtip struck the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526. The smaller Endeavor plane was on a nearby taxiway preparing for takeoff to Louisiana.
The force of the collision tore the tail off the Endeavor jet, leaving debris scattered across the tarmac. The larger Delta jet, carrying 221 passengers, lost part of its wing in the process.
Flights Halted After Impact
The collision occurred just after 10 a.m., causing immediate disruptions. Both planes were forced to halt, and passengers were swiftly returned to the terminal.
No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew on either flight. The 56 passengers aboard the Endeavor Air flight, along with those from the Delta jet, were placed on alternate flights.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Delta confirmed the damage, with video footage circulating online showing the extent of the destruction. The wing of the Delta plane appeared to be completely ripped off, making it clear how severe the incident was.
A Passenger’s Eyewitness Account
One passenger, Greg Vojnovic, described the chaotic scene: “I was on a different Delta flight and our pilot came on the intercom to let us all know what had happened and informed us that no one has been injured and for us not to be alarmed by the emergency vehicles.”
Greg added, “as a passenger I thought that Delta went above and beyond to let us know what had happened and appreciated it.”
Investigation Underway
Delta Air Lines has pledged full cooperation with the National Transportation Safety Board and other authorities as they investigate the cause of the accident. Both planes involved are grounded, and an investigation is underway to determine how such a collision occurred during taxiing procedures.
While no immediate safety concerns were raised, the incident will likely spark deeper inquiries into the protocols followed by both airlines on that day.

Your headline on the Atlanta Hartsfield ground taxi was vastly misleading. The Delta jet’s wing was nowhere ripped off as you suggest. Also, you mention in the early text that the Endeavor aircraft taxied into the Delta, which is corrected in later paragraphs. Let’s not reach for the sensational trigger on these items. They are interesting enough to warrant a further read without massaging the facts. Thank you
Hey Al, thanks for reading and commenting – glad to see we caught your eye! Major news outlets as well as the press release we were given indicated that Delta’s wing was ripped off – and most pictures online sure look like it was too! Yikes! Also, the tail was ripped off the smaller plane too. Pretty crazy, huh? Not sure why this headline is misleading, but sorry you feel this way! Either way – I’m glad we can agree it is an interesting story and thank God no one was injured! Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks again – Jack (and Kitty)
