Gary, IN – In 2014, Latoya Ammons and her three children experienced a real-life nightmare that would send shivers down anyone’s spine. The story began when Ammons and her mother, Rosa Campbell, moved into a rental house in Gary, Indiana that seemed perfectly ordinary from the outside. Little did they know, the horrors that awaited them inside would change their lives forever.

Strange Occurrences Begin 🪰

Almost immediately after settling in, bizarre things started happening. Massive swarms of flies infested the screened-in porch, even in the dead of winter. The family kept killing them, but they just kept coming back relentlessly. That was only the beginning though. 

Late at night, they heard the unnerving sounds of heavy footsteps clomping up the basement stairs and the creak of the door opening, even though no one was there. Campbell even saw the shadowy figure of a man pacing in the living room one night, leaving behind wet, muddy bootprints. A sense of unease and dread permeated the house.

The Horrifying Night 👻

Then, one terrifying night, all hell broke loose. The family was mourning the loss of a loved one with friends when Ammons’ 12-year-old daughter was seen levitating above her bed, completely unconscious. The shocked onlookers said she stayed floating in the air until they surrounded the bed and prayed intensely. When she finally came back down, she had no memory of what happened. 

From that point on, the family said that the children would go into violent trances, their eyes bulging, voices deepening, and evil grins on their faces. They believed the kids had become possessed by demons. Even more disturbingly, Ammons’ youngest boy was once thrown across the room by an invisible force, according to their account.  

The Paranormal Investigators 🔍

Desperate for help, the family reached out to clairvoyants and their family physician, Dr. Geoffrey Onyeukwu. Paranormal investigators determined there were over 200 demons haunting the house, maybe even an actual portal to hell in the basement! Father Michael Maginot performed an intense blessing of the home, but said it was too dangerous for the family to stay there.

However, the horror followed them. Ammons took the kids to the hospital after prolonged “possession episodes” and erratic behavior. That’s when some say a full-blown demonic encounter occurred.

Hospital staff, including a DCS case manager and a nurse, reported seeing Ammons’ 9-year-old son walking backwards up the wall to the ceiling! He flipped over and landed on his feet, all while not releasing his grandmother’s hand. He had no recollection of the incident afterwards. Some believe it was a dangerous supernatural event, while others maintain it had to be an acrobatic trick.

The Exorcisms ✝️

Ultimately, Child Protective Services took emergency custody of the children, fearing for their safety and speculating about Ammons’ mental health. But Father Maginot believed the family’s claims were real. He received special permission from the Church to perform a series of rare exorcisms on Ammons.  

During the intense rituals, Ammons reported convulsing, feeling immense pain, and hearing demonic voices. Father Maginot said it was a battle against evil, condemning the demons and praising God until they weakened. After months of spiritual warfare, the family was finally freed from the hellish ordeal. 

The children were returned to Ammons’ custody and the family moved away from the house, never to be haunted again. To this day, they maintain that what they experienced was a true demonic possession and that their faith saved them in the end. 

The house on Carolina Street was demolished on January 19, 2016 after the hauntings became too much to bear. All that remains now are the chilling memories and unanswered questions about what really happened inside that seemingly ordinary home.
