BOUNTIFUL, UT – An injured dirt biker in Utah was rescued Saturday night after accidentally driving over a steep embankment and falling some 125 feet down a mountain, officials said.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue service said responders were dispatched to an area below the “Bountiful B,” a concrete letter ‘B’ on a hillside in Bountiful, at around 8:16 p.m. following a call about an injured dirt biker.

The victim, described as a 30-year-old man, was riding his dirt bike on Skyline Drive, a rocky, offroad dirt trail that runs from Farmington Canyon up to Bountiful Peak and down into the Bountiful foothills, when he drove over an embankment.

He fell approximately 125 feet down the mountain on a rocky hillside, sustaining “serious injuries” including multiple lacerations and a broken leg.

The victim’s friend saw the accident, and climbed down to help, officials said. The South Davis Metro Fire Department was the first agency on scene, and they assembled a rope system to reach the injured biker, who was still conscious and breathing.

Davis County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue called for a helicopter evacuation, and the Utah Department of Public Safety “quickly” responded with a helicopter.

A video shared by the sheriff’s office shows the helicopter’s arrival at a staging area.

The helicopter hoisted the victim and transported him to the staging area, where paramedics with South Davis Metro were waiting to transport him via ambulance to a local hospital.

A second rope system was then set up to retrieve the man’s friend, the sheriff’s office said.
