CHICAGO, IL — An investigation is underway following an unsettling incident at a Democratic National Convention (DNC) delegate breakfast on Wednesday morning in Chicago. Protesters allegedly introduced maggots into the food served at the Fairmont Chicago – Millennium Park hotel.
Incident Details
The disturbance occurred around 6:45 a.m. at the luxury hotel located at 200 N. Columbus Drive. Delegates were present at the hotel as U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was scheduled to speak.
As breakfast was being served buffet-style, multiple female suspects entered the meeting room, placed unknown objects into the food, and then exited. The disruption was initially unnoticed by many attendees.
Immediate Actions and Outcome
Hotel staff quickly replaced the contaminated food and cleaned the affected areas.
According to DNC officials, one person received medical attention at the scene but was released shortly after. The incident did not result in any reported food consumption of the affected items.
Ongoing Investigation
The Chicago Police Department and the FBI are involved in the ongoing investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the group responsible for the protest remains unidentified.
This incident follows a similar event last month at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., where pro-Palestinian activists released maggots and crickets in protest of an international visit.
The motive and affiliations of the perpetrators in the Chicago case are still unclear.

According to a statement from the Fairmont Chicago, the hotel staff promptly addressed the situation. The hotel expressed gratitude for the swift response from law enforcement and assured that guest safety and food cleanliness remain top priorities.
The statement reads:
