CHICAGO, IL – As police continue their search for suspects linked to multiple robberies, including the armed robbery of a Texas Democratic delegate in downtown Chicago on Wednesday, the city’s escalating crime concerns remain in the spotlight.
A delegate from Texas attending a national convention in Chicago was reportedly robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday morning.
The victim, part of the Texas Democratic Delegation, was walking with a companion near the Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel around 2 a.m. when the incident occurred, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The assailant, who was wearing a ski mask, had reportedly pulled up in a black Range Rover and first robbed a 25-year-old man of his wallet and hotel key.
The thief then crossed the street and confronted the delegate, a 37-year-old man, and his 40-year-old female companion, demanding their belongings.
After the robbery, the suspect fled the scene in the SUV. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
Police have not released further details about the victims, including whether they were in Chicago specifically for the convention.
Authorities are currently searching for the suspect and an accomplice, who are described as two men between 5’7” and 5’9” tall.
The same individuals are believed to be involved in at least three other robberies in the area this week, including one on Monday morning and another on Tuesday outside the Emily Hotel.
The investigation is ongoing, as police work to identify and apprehend those responsible.
