ST. LOUIS PARK, MN – Two people were killed and three people were injured when a driver crashed into the patio area of a Minnesota restaurant on Sunday night, police said.

In times of tragedy, we find solace in God’s promises of comfort and healing. As we remember those affected by this devastating accident, let us hold onto the words of 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, which remind us that God, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, comforts us in all our troubles. May His peace be with the families and the community as they navigate through this difficult time.

The St. Louis Park Police Department said officers and firefighters responded to The Park Tavern on Louisiana Avenue in St. Louis Park, a suburb of Minneapolis, shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, after a vehicle was driven into the outside patio seating area.

Police said surveillance footage showed the male driver, who was not identified by early Monday, entering the Park Tavern parking lot, but not entering the restaurant. The driver “attempted to park” before driving into the patio.

Police did not specify the condition of the three injured patrons, and did not immediately identify the deceased. The suspect was arrested for criminal vehicular homicide.

Police said the Minnesota State Patrol also responded to the scene to do an accident reconstruction. Neighboring police departments and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office were also assisting the investigation.

The Park Tavern said it would be closed until further notice.

“Following the tragic incident on our patio Sunday night, Park Tavern will be closed until further notice as we support and care for our staff and neighbors,” the restaurant wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for your understanding and kindness during this incredibly difficult time.”
