HUTCHINSON, KS – Children laughed. Families snapped selfies with prize-winning hogs. Amid the buzz of carnival games and the aroma of fair food, a sudden explosion shattered the festive atmosphere at the Kansas State Fair Tuesday evening. The blast left two people hospitalized and several others injured and shaken. The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. in the south corridor of the fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Emergency Response and Injuries
Hutchinson Fire Department quickly responded to the scene after receiving reports of a fire at a concessions trailer.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a small explosion had occurred inside the trailer. Two individuals were seriously injured and immediately transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
Several others sustained minor injuries but declined treatment, according to the fire departmentās report.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. The Hutchinson Fire Department’s Fire Marshal is working closely with State Fire Marshals to determine what led to the blast. At this time, no further details about the nature of the explosion have been released.
Fairgoers are advised to exercise caution as the investigation continues, though the rest of the event remains in operation.
