LAS VEGAS, NV — A spring break vacation to Las Vegas, Nevada turned into a nightmare for a family when three members mysteriously disappeared after visiting the Grand Canyon. Authorities are frantically searching for Jiyeon Lee, 23, and her relatives Taehee Kim, 69, and Junghee Kim, 64, who were last tracked on Interstate 40 during treacherous weather conditions.

Winter Storm Creates Deadly Conditions

The family’s white BMW rental car, bearing California plates 9KHN768, was last detected by GPS on March 13 around 3:30 p.m. local time.

That same afternoon, a devastating 22-vehicle pileup occurred near Williams, Arizona, claiming two lives and sending 16 people to hospitals. The crash site lies along the family’s planned route from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas.

Search Intensifies as Questions Mount

While investigators have not confirmed whether the missing vehicle was involved in the massive collision, the timing and location have raised serious concerns.

The crash occurred approximately one hour from the Grand Canyon on the main route toward Las Vegas, precisely where the family was traveling.

Race Against Time

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has launched an extensive search operation, mobilizing resources to locate the missing travelers.

Law enforcement officials are particularly focused on the stretch of I-40 where the vehicle’s GPS signal was last detected, coinciding with the time and location of the multi-vehicle accident.

How to Help

The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information about the whereabouts of Lee and the Kims to contact their office immediately. The investigation remains active as authorities work to piece together the events of that stormy afternoon and locate the missing family members.

Honoring Those Affected

As the search continues for Jiyeon Lee, Taehee Kim, and Junghee Kim, we pause to honor them and all those touched by this unfolding mystery. These individuals, cherished by their loved ones, set out to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation, only to vanish amid the storm.

In times like these, we find solace in the promise of Psalm 46:1, where Scripture reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

May this truth bring comfort to their family and friends, and may the efforts of the search teams reflect the hope and compassion we are called to share. Our prayers remain with them, trusting in divine guidance to bring answers and peace.
