MELBOURNE, FL – A simple argument over a plate of food turned deadly when a Florida teenager beat his father to death, police revealed. Julien Welch-Beddoe, 19, now faces a manslaughter charge after their family fight took a violent and fatal turn.

The incident began on the night of January 19 at their home in Brevard County.

According to the arrest affidavit, the tension ignited when Welch-Beddoe went to serve himself dinner. His father, 45-year-old Francis Welch, objected, saying his son “didn’t deserve” the meal because he wasn’t working.

Ignoring his father’s complaint, Welch-Beddoe took the plate and headed toward his bedroom—only to be confronted and pushed by his father.

Fight Spirals Into Deadly Struggle

The altercation quickly became physical. Welch-Beddoe admitted to investigators that he retaliated by putting his father in a headlock and delivering “two to three punches” to his ribs. The scuffle escalated when Welch-Beddoe allegedly pinned his father on the floor in a chokehold.

Despite efforts from Welch’s fiancée to break up the fight, the son eventually returned to his room, leaving his injured father behind. But the situation took a grim turn just minutes later.

‘This Isn’t a Joke!’—Final Moments Before Death

Shortly after the fight ended, Welch-Beddoe heard a panicked scream from the living room. His father’s fiancée was shouting, “This isn’t a joke!”

Rushing back, Welch-Beddoe found his father unresponsive, breathing heavily through his mouth, and turning pale.

Emergency services were called, and Welch was rushed to Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead after midnight on Jan. 20.

Autopsy Reveals Fatal Injuries

An autopsy determined that Welch died from internal bleeding caused by a ruptured spleen. The damage came from a laceration linked to three broken ribs sustained during the fight. The medical examiner officially ruled the death a homicide.

Following the discovery of his father’s death, Welch-Beddoe stopped cooperating with police and requested a lawyer, the affidavit said.

Arrest and Court Details

On Feb. 5, police arrested Welch-Beddoe and charged him with manslaughter. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail with bond set at $50,000.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 25.
