PEGRAM, TN – Nestled just outside Nashville, Tennessee a quiet town called Pegram hides a spooky tale that’s straight out of a paranormal thriller. Back in 1970, bulldozers rolled over the Pegram Family Cemetery, a once-cherished local site along the Harpeth River. Developers had big plans for cozy homes, but what they left behind—or failed to handle—still haunts the area today. Visitors can’t roam the graveyard anymore, though its ghostly legacy lingers at the end of Walkup Road.
A Cemetery Vanishes, But Not Quietly
In 1970, a team of builders leveled a patch of land in Pegram, Tennessee, including the rundown Pegram Family Cemetery.
Their goal? Turn the wild, serene riverside into a slice of suburbia with homes on concrete slabs.
They cleared the area and even sold the soil as fill dirt, spreading it across town. What seemed like a simple project took a dark turn five years later.
The River Reveals a Grim Surprise
In 1975, the Harpeth River swelled, climbing 30 feet and churning up more than mud. A local man, Archie Greer, found a coffin in his yard one morning—holding Mrs. Carrie Pegram Heath, Pegram’s first postmistress.
The unearthed casket proved the developers hadn’t properly relocated the cemetery’s residents. Instead, they’d scattered the sacred ground throughout Pegram via that fill dirt.
Strange Events Plague the Town
After reburying Mrs. Heath, Pegram faced a string of odd occurrences.
Homes that never flooded before filled with water. A supermarket went up in flames with no clear cause.
Locals began to whisper: disturbing a graveyard comes with consequences.
Paranormal Travel Hotspot?
Today, the end of Walkup Road marks where the Pegram Family Cemetery once stood—a must-visit for haunted history buffs.
This eerie location draws curiosity from travelers seeking Tennessee’s spookiest secrets, offering a chilling glimpse into a past that refuses to stay buried.
