TAMPA, FL – One person was killed and two others were injured when a man drove a truck into a strip club early Tuesday morning, police said.
The Tampa Police Department said officers responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the parking lot of the Emperor’s Gentleman’s Club on Adamo Drive at around 4:19 a.m. Tuesday.
They arrived to find a man had driven the cab of a semi truck into the front area of the building.
Witnesses told officers the driver had been kicked out of the club, then returned to drive the truck into a group of people standing at the entrance.
Police said one adult man was killed, and two other adult men were injured. The injured men were expected to survive. Police did not release the name of the man who was killed.
The driver, who was not named, was taken into custody and hospitalized in critical condition. Police said charges would be forthcoming.
“This is an unbelievably tragic and completely avoidable incident,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement.
“We will work to get justice for the victims and their families. We are thinking of all those impacted including the innocent bystanders who witnessed this horrific ordeal.”
