LAKE WALES, FL — When Kristin Ann Mittelstadt spotted police lights in her rearview mirror, she made a decision that would dig her legal hole even deeper. Behind the wheel of a silver Ford Mustang convertible, Mittelstadt wasn’t exactly keeping a low profile. A Florida deputy first noticed her car swaying across the center line near Rolling Hills Court East and Masterpiece Road. What started as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a chase reaching speeds of 60 mph.
Close Calls and Quick Escapes
The pursuit took a dangerous turn when Mittelstadt allegedly encountered backed-up traffic at a highway intersection.
Rather than surrender, she reportedly veered into oncoming traffic before cutting through a Sunoco gas station parking lot to escape. Though she temporarily slipped away, her freedom proved short-lived.
Second Time’s the Charm
When deputies spotted the Mustang again on Masterpiece Road, history repeated itself. Mittelstadt allegedly hit the gas once more, but this time, law enforcement was ready.
Deputies executed a precision immobilization technique (PIT maneuver), forcing the Mustang into a spin that ended the pursuit.
A Pattern of Poor Decisions
After her arrest, Mittelstadt allegedly told deputies she fled because she knew she’d face serious jail time if caught.
According to authorities, she also admitted to smoking methamphetamine earlier that day.
Perhaps most remarkably, she was already out on bond for previous charges of fleeing police and driving with a suspended license.
The Stakes Get Higher
Mittelstadt now faces six charges, including fleeing to elude, driving with a suspended license as a habitual offender, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say her driver’s license has been revoked since 2009.
She is currently being held on $12,000 bond. As with all criminal defendants, Mittelstadt is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
