MADISON, IL – A brazen armed robbery of a Brink’s truck in Madison, Illinois, has led to the indictment of four individuals on federal charges. The shocking crime, which unfolded in December, included gun-wielding suspects, a daring getaway, and a car set on fire in an effort to cover up the tracks. The suspects now face serious charges, and law enforcement agencies are praising their collaboration in bringing the criminals to justice.
Details of the Robbery
On December 5, 2024, two Brink’s employees were servicing an ATM in Madison, Illinois, when two men armed with pistols confronted them.
The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Antonio T. Harris and 26-year-old Patrick D. Johnson, allegedly stole cash from the Brink’s truck, as well as the employees’ gun belts containing two pistols, ammunition, and magazines.
The theft left local law enforcement agencies scrambling to track down the suspects, leading to a multi-agency investigation.
Role of the Other Suspects
The investigation revealed more details about the escape. Lee O. Griffin Jr., 23, allegedly played a crucial role in the crime by driving the getaway car – a Chevrolet Impala.
The car was later found burning in Washington Park, and authorities believe Griffin and 29-year-old Taneisha M. Davis were responsible for setting the vehicle on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Griffin faces several charges: one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, one count of interference with commerce by robbery, one count of arson, and one count of possession of a weapon in furtherance of a crime of violence. Harris and Johnson are both charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery. Davis is charged with arson for her involvement in the car fire.
Investigation and Law Enforcement Response
The case quickly became a focal point for both local and federal law enforcement agencies. The FBI’s Springfield office led the investigation, with significant assistance from Illinois State Police, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Madison Police Department.
Madison County Sheriff Jeff C. Connor also expressed his appreciation for the collaborative work, stating, “I am proud of the men and women who spent untold hours to track down these criminals and send a message to others, these type of actions will not be tolerated in Madison County.”
FBI Springfield Special Agent in Charge Christopher Johnson praised the collective effort of the agencies involved, saying, “The FBI works with and supports our law enforcement partners at every level of government on a daily basis.”
“These strong alliances are how we leverage our respective strengths and capabilities, and the key to better protecting the American people,” Johnson added.
The four individuals now face significant charges as the case continues to unfold.
