BURNSVILLE, MN – Burnsville residents are shaken to their core after a gang-related shooting in a peaceful suburban park left five Minnesota teens wounded. With no arrests and dangerous criminals still on the loose, families are left wondering: Are gangs invading our neighborhoods?

A Day at the Park Turns to Terror

What was supposed to be a normal evening at Red Oak Park on August 30th turned into a nightmare. Gunfire exploded on the basketball court, where “known gang associates” gathered, turning the quiet suburban park into a warzone. In a flash, five young lives were shattered.

Police arrived to find four teens bleeding out on the ground. A fifth victim, too injured to wait for help, was rushed to the hospital in a private car. The victims, ranging from 16 to 19 years old, are part of a disturbing trend of young people becoming entangled in gang violence – right in the heart of suburbia. One victim still fights for his life at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Gangs in Our Backyard

This wasn’t random. Authorities believe the gunmen targeted specific people on the basketball court – some linked to gang activity. The shooters have vanished, likely blending into the community, and police are desperately trying to track them down. It’s a terrifying thought: heavily armed gang members may be lurking just blocks away from family homes.

What makes this even more frightening? Some of these suspects fled into the park’s wooded areas, right next to homes where children sleep. One troubling question lingers: Why weren’t residents told to stay indoors when armed suspects were running free?

Community in Fear

For decades, Red Oak Park has been a safe haven for local families. But now, that sense of safety has been shattered.

Neighborhoods once filled with the laughter of children are now paralyzed by fear of the unknown. How long until the violence strikes again? How safe are our suburban streets when gang members can infiltrate and shoot with impunity?

Police Struggle, Residents Left in the Dark

Despite 50 witness interviews and the involvement of state and federal authorities, Burnsville police have not made a single arrest. Chief Tanya Schwartz continues to urge anyone with information to come forward.

Chief Schwartz says cops are urgently seeking any tips from the public. If you have any information that could help bring these dangerous individuals to justice, contact Burnsville Police Det. Mitch Carlson at 952-641-1156.

Residents are also being asked to review their home security footage from that Friday night, between 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. You could be the key to uncovering where these armed suspects disappeared to—and stopping them before they strike again.

  1. THIS is what passes for journalism these days? Too bad the writer did not feel called by God to get any actual training before deciding to call themself a “journalist.”

  2. Hey Corey! Thanks for reading. It certainly is a scary story, isn’t it? Stay safe – we serve an awesome God! Have a great day and thanks again for your perspective. – Jack and Kitty

  3. Shootings in Burnsville Red Oak Park. The survivors know who attacked them. Thinks we need to take this gang stuff to the next level. The survivors must divulge who shooters were. If not survivors must face time in jail. The gang members must be jailed or deported for an extended time. No more “little slap on the hands”

  4. Hey PB – Yup, we need to be a LOT more tough on crime. We agree! It’s the only way to keep innocent folks safe! Thanks for reading! 🙂 – Jack and Kitty
