On November 23, 2024, during St. Thomas, Ontario’s 38th annual Santa Claus Parade, this senior Scrooge allegedly punched Santa Claus—yup, you read that right! Why? Allegedly this grouchy grandma said St. Nick was blocking her view. The parade, which brings the community together every year, suddenly became the scene of an unexpected holiday showdown.
Dispute Over Parade View Leads to Violence
According to the St. Thomas Police Service, the altercation took place between two spectators during the parade. The woman, whose identity has not been released by authorities, reportedly became upset when a Santa Claus actor blocked her family’s view of the festivities. What followed was a sudden and violent response: police say the woman punched the Santa impersonator in the face, knocking him to the ground.
The actor, who was part of the parade’s theme of “Christmas at the Circus,” did not suffer any serious injuries, but the incident was alarming enough to prompt immediate police involvement.
Arrest and Release on Bail
Following the confrontation, officers quickly responded to the scene. The 62-year-old woman was arrested at the parade and transported to the local police headquarters.
After being processed, she was released with a scheduled court date. Police have not revealed whether the woman has any prior criminal history or what motivated her to react so aggressively during a family-friendly event.
