Winona, Minnesota – Get ready for a celestial show! In spring 2024, a super cool solar eclipse is happening, and it’s one of the biggest in ages. Imagine the sky going dark during the day – that’s what’s in store!

When is the 2024 Solar Eclipse?

On April 8, 2024, folks in the USA, Mexico, and Canada will witness something amazing! The moon will slide right in front of the sun, creating total darkness for almost 4 minutes in some northern states. Wow!

Where Can I See the 2024 Solar Eclipse?

Now, where’s the best spot to catch this cosmic event? Check out cities along the “path of totality.” These places, like Dallas, Cleveland, and Burlington, will see the sun completely disappear. Even if you’re in New Jersey, you’ll get to enjoy 90% of the sun blocked by the moon. It’ll look like a thin crescent moon up there!

In the Midwest, your best bets are: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and possibly Michigan.

Check out this NASA map showing how the moon's shadow will cross the U.S. on April 8, 2024, during the total solar eclipse. When this happens, the moon moves right between the sun and Earth, making it look like a sunrise or sunset, and lucky folks in the path of totality might even catch a glimpse of the sun's outer atmosphere (the corona), if the weather cooperates!

Always Wear Safety Glasses

But here’s the catch – safety first! When gazing at the sun during the eclipse, always wear special safety glasses. NASA insists on it to protect your eyes. Regular sunglasses won’t do the trick. During the total eclipse, it’s safe to look directly, but before and after, you must use eclipse glasses or a pinhole projector.

Speaking of pinhole projectors, you can make one at home with cardboard. It projects a tiny sun image onto a nearby surface, so you can watch safely. Remember, never peek at the sun directly through the pinhole!

So, mark your calendars and get those eclipse glasses ready for an incredible sight in 2024. It’s gonna be a celestial party! 🌞🌚
