ELIZABETHTOWN, KY – A suspect was still at large Monday morning after shooting three people outside a Kentucky courthouse, with nearby schools placed on “soft lockdown,” authorities said.
The Elizabethtown Police Department confirmed three people had been shot shortly before 8:15 a.m. Monday in the parking lot outside the Hardin County Justice Center in Elizabethtown, about 45 miles south of Louisville.
Police said they could not provide information about the victims’ conditions shortly before 10 a.m.
“The suspect is at large and multiple agencies are actively seeking him. We believe he has left the area and may already be out of Hardin County,” police said. Schools in the area were placed on a “soft lockdown.”
The neighboring Grayson County Sheriff’s Office said Grayson County schools were also placed on a soft lockdown “out of an abundance of caution.”
Kentucky State Police said it was assisting local law enforcement, and advised people in the area of the shooting to shelter in place.
