The Hauntings of Winona State University

First up, we’ve got Winona State University. This is where my hubby Jack went to school! A fun personal note: he flunked out of their Creative Writing degree, but now makes his living as an author! I guess that means professors don’t know everything! Hehe. 😹

Getting back to out story… the third floor of Lourdes Hall is a ghost hunter’s paradise. 🏚️ Imagine pictures and posters mysteriously moving, doors locking themselves, and ghostly voices when no one’s around. 😱 Oh, and the fourth floor? It used to be an infirmary for nuns. Folks have reported hearing the cries of souls who passed away there. 😨

But WSU isn’t just haunted hallways. Richards Hall has a tragic tale of a student who took his own life back in ’78. A gentle reminder: mental health is crucial. If you’re in the U.S. and need help, dial 988. You’re not alone. 💛

A Blast from the Past: St. Mary’s University

St. Mary’s University in Winona has its own eerie history, starting with Father Lesches. He cursed partying students to die young. 😳

Fast forward to the ’70s, and we hear about a student named Tommy. He lived in Heffron Hall and started experiencing nightmarish visions of Father Lesches. The end result? Tommy was found lifeless, his dark hair turned gray, and a cross branded on his chest. 😨

Pieces of the Past: More Than Just Antiques

Last but definitely not least, let’s talk about Pieces of the Past, an antique store in downtown Winona. 🏚️

Not just a regular antique store, mind you. This place has spirits from its days as law offices and a brothel! You might encounter a cold spot where a staircase used to be, or see light bulbs changing color on their own. 🌈

*This second floor windows pays tribute to the building’s history as a former 1850s brothel during Winona’s wilder days! This is said to be the most haunted spot in all of Winona County!*

Jack had a chance to speak with Cheri Peterson, the owner of Pieces of the Past. She’s heard some spine-tingling stories from both customers and ghost hunters. A popular tale involves bartenders encountering a lady in a pink dress. 🌸 Cheri’s own son witnessed a fire door opening and closing on its own. 😱
